We are currently accepting applications for Jr. Coaches for our 2026 Swim Season.
A Jr. Coach volunteers to assist with coaching and mentoring younger swimmers. If you have a swimmer that is 13 or will be 13 during the season and may be interested, then please complete the junior coach application form located in the Team Resources section of the website (login required)
RW Rockets Junior Coach Position Information:
This is a volunteer position, with no expectation of compensation. However, this can be used as work experience for future employment. The minimum age to be a Jr Coach is 13. However, if a swimmer turns 13 during the swim season, they may still apply.
PURPOSE:
To provide our older swimmers with the opportunity to engage in leadership roles. To come to a better understanding of the sport and how to apply that through teaching. To be a role model to younger swimmers. To participate in a hiring process which includes an application, interview, and training.
EXPECTATIONS:
•Jr Coaches primary responsibility will be to assist with swim practices, with a focus on Green and Yellow groups. They will be working with Coach Allison and assisting swimmers with drills and stroke technique.
•Jr Coaches are expected to arrive 5-10 minutes prior to the beginning of their shift so that the practice can begin on time.
•If they are unable to attend their scheduled shift, they are expected to contact Coach Allison or Coach Steve prior to the shift. Not showing up for a shift without notification may result in removal from the Jr Coach position. We will attempt to evenly divide the hours so that no one Jr Coach is working excessively.
•Jr Coaches must be currently registered and active members of the Rockets. Jr Coaches that miss excessive practices for their assigned swim group, may be removed from the Jr Coach position.
•A minimum of 2 Jr Coaches will be assigned to help with each Swim Meet. One will be assigned to assist Coach Allison with the Littles and one will be assigned to Coach Steve to ensure swimmers get to the correct starting block and any help/ encouragement that they might need. More Jr Coaches may volunteer to help, but the assigned Jr Coaches are responsible to ensure that the Head Coaches have the help they need.
•Jr Coaches may also be asked to help Assistant Coaches with their shifts, while they are filling in for Coach Allison or Coach Steve.
•Training- will cover; safety, learning the drills used during the practices and how to assist with them, concepts of stroke techniques. Additionally, Jr Coaches must attend a YMCA Volunteer Training.
•Jr Coaches are expected to maintain the Team Code of Conduct. Any failure to conform with the Code may result in their dismissal.
We are asking that all application are submitted by March 1st. We will be doing interviews beginning the following week and there will be a one-hour training in March - TBD.
